Our surveys include:
a) Breeding Bird Survey;
b) Wintering Bird Survey;
c) Nesting Bird Check; and
d) Barn Owl Surveys.
a) Breeding Bird Survey
One survey visit per month between April and June, including a dawn walked transect to identify species assemblages, with a particular focus on protected and notable bird species.
b) Wintering Bird Survey
One survey visit per month between October and March, including a dawn walked transect to identify species assemblages, with a particular focus on protected and notable bird species.
c) Nesting Bird Check
A site visit undertaken within the bird breeding season (typically March to August inclusive) to check for nesting bird activity, including active nests, territorial behaviour, food carrying etc.
d) Barn Owl Surveys
A habitat suitability assessment for Barn Owl including searching for evidence of presence / activity, such as pellets, feathers, droppings etc.
Crestwood are able to undertake surveys and mitigation measures for other owl species such as little owl.
Mitigation and Licensing
Crestwood has extensive experience in undertaking Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) for works impacting on bird species as well as the production of Bird Hazard Management Plans. Licenced surveyors are required to undertake checks on barn owl boxes.
