Bioaerosol Monitoring

Crestwood Environmental provides bioaerosol analysis for a wide variety of sites where potential bioaerosol emission might occur, including wastewater treatment plants, composting facilities, animal farms, food processing plants, healthcare facilities, manufacturing plants, schools and universities and indoor and outdoor environments.

Our specialist team can undertake the bioaerosol monitoring according to two different protocols: site monitoring for boundary bioaerosol analysis according to the AFOR protocol (using the Anderson samplers) or for personnel monitoring using CIP 10M monitors according to the HSE protocol for monitoring bioaerosol exposure to workers.

Once the air samples have been collected, they are taken to our in-house laboratory for analysis. The samples are plated, incubated and bacterial colonies enumerated. Crestwood Environmental will provide a laboratory report or a full detailed report with recommendations where required.

The bioaerosols that Crestwood Environmental monitors include:

  • Aspergillus fumigatus: This is a fungus that can cause serious health problems, such as aspergillosis, in people with weakened immune systems.
  • Total mesophilic bacteria: These are bacteria that thrive in moderate temperatures. They can cause a variety of health problems, such as food poisoning.
  • Total gram negative bacteria: These are bacteria that have a negative reaction to a certain type of stain. They can also cause a variety of health problems.
