Dust Monitoring

Dust is the generic term for particulate matter ranging from 1-75µm in diameter. Operations that may generate dust include quarrying, landfill, demolition and agriculture.

Exposure to smaller, organic dust particles (PM10) can lead to or exacerbate respiratory health conditions including aspergillosis, allegic rhinitis, asthma, Organic Dust Toxic Syndrome and Farmer's Lung. Larger dust particulates (>10µm) may result in nuisance dust. Nuisance dust can be long term (soiling of paintwork) or short term (short lived dust cloud).

Particulates are of concern for Health and Safety, Planning and Permitting requirements.

Crestwood Environmental Limited offers the following types of dust monitoring:

Personnel Dust Monitoring

Our personnel dust monitoring assesses inhalable organic dust and is carried out in full accordance with MDHS 14/3 for the interest of Site Personnel's Health and Safety Requirements.

Our specialised staff obtain samples which are then sent to a qualified laboratory for analysis. Using the data a concise report will be complied.

Boundary Dust Monitoring

The purpose of this monitoring is to measure the levels of nuisance dust at the site boundary and/or other agreed locations, in conjunction with meteorological data so that a detailed report can be provided.
Boundary dust monitoring aims to satisfy any Environment Agency Risk Assessments and Environmental Permitting Requirements.
